Elizabeth Jeffs

Elizabeth was born in Townsville, the second youngest of seven children.  She taught English in secondary schools in Queensland and lectured in Drama and Communication at Griffith University. Since then she has worked in the community sector and in the State and Commonwealth Public Service.

In 2000, her partner Paul’s mother died leaving him to attend to a rooming house which had been run by the family since 1937 in Browning Street, West End.

This brought Paul and his family face to face with the confronting social issues of poverty, homelessness and mental health conditions and their consequences. As a result Elizabeth wrote the book “17 Browning Street”.

Elizabeth has since spent three years as a volunteer teacher at The MacArthur Museum, Brisbane. She is now writing a book about Brisbane’s role as a garrison town during the heady days of World War Two.

Elizabeth lives with her partner, Paul, at Mt Cotton and has two grown up children Caroline and Julian.
